I had errands downtown and took a photo Monday and Tuesday of the Turtle Place project. I can hardly wait to see it finished. When the mural is completed, they will add the fountain and benches --all made from recycled items.

Our city has decided to commemorate our heritage with "Turtle Place" in downtown Vancouver.
With anticipation, our city awaits this recycling project that re-creates history of Native Americans for access to the Columbia River for fishing and gathering food, as a temporary residence and a trading place. The Klickitat Trail,, had its southern terminus in the vicinity of Turtle Place. an important native trade route which traveled overland to connect The Dalles upriver on the Columbia and Yakima beyond
My name is Paulie and I have several blogs. I started with "PostcardsfromPaulie" which is my main blog. I have gradually added others. "Turtle Place" is for a new project downtown that celebrates our heritage and one day will be a gathering place like it was many years ago.Vancouver's history. I intend to keep a photo graphic journal of a special house at From My View - the Kiggins House.
Living in Vancouver, WA, we have many historical homes and sites and our community is aware of the importance of our heritage. This home was built by the first Mayor of Vancouver and is on the National Historical Register. This year, it was moved from its original site and is being restored to be used as the personal home of the Bruce and Judy Woods family.

The paper you see on the building is like masking tape to separate parts and define where they are painting the parts of the mural.
